Simon Smith

Consultant Breast Surgeon

Simon is a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast and Endocrine Surgeon based in Chelmsford, Essex. His One Stop Breast Clinic, held twice a week at Ramsay Springfield Hospital, is the front door to the breast cancer pathway.

Currently, Simon is the Lead Breast Surgeon for the Chelmsford Breast Unit, which treats more than 425 cases of breast cancer every year. In addition to running a diagnostic clinic, Simon undertakes all types of surgery on the breast, including breast lump removal (Wide Local Excision), sentinel node biopsy and axillary clearance, and mastectomy with and without immediate breast reconstruction.

Simon is particularly interested in optimising the aesthetic outcome of breast cancer surgery, and undertakes many ‘Therapeutic mammoplasty’ procedures (breast reduction to treat breast cancer) each year.

His expertise in breast reconstruction and cancer aesthetics has led him into the field of cosmetic breast surgery, and each year he carries out a large number of cosmetic breast procedures, including breast augmentation, breast reduction, mastopexy (breast lift) as well as procedures for breast asymmetry and congenital breast abnormalities.

Simon trained at St Mary’s Hospital, London, graduating in 1993. From there, he continued to do his postgraduate training in London before becoming a fully accredited general surgeon. During this time, Mr Smith won the Association of Surgeons Gold Medal for taking the top position in the UK in the general and breast surgery examinations.

In 2018 Simon was named in the Daily Mails Top 10 UK Breast Surgeons.
